researchers, including Professor Susumu Kitagawa of Kyoto University,\u00a0have been awarded\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/prizes\/chemistry\/2025\/press-release\/\">the Nobel Prize in Chemistry<\/a><br>for their &#8220;development of porous metal-organic frames (MOFs). &#8221; The most distinctive feature of MOFs is their ability to trap specific molecules in their countless tiny pores. At the Institute for Solid State Physics (ISSP), Professor Masuda (then affiliated with Yokohama City University in 2008), in collaboration with Professor Kitagawa, was conducting research to confine oxygen molecules within MOFs and investigate their magnetically excited states.<br>The ISSP neutron shared-use instrument PONTA, installed in the JRR-3 research reactor, played a crucial role in this research, enabling the observation of the spin motion and molecular vibrations of oxygen molecules within metal frames like MOFs.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph
